Back to school

Yes, I went back to school today. Japanese Calligraphy School!
Nelson City is very fortunate to have the only traditional Japanese calligraphy school and art gallery in New Zealand. My sincere thanks to Master Calligrapher Akiko Crowther for an amazing lesson.

I love so much about Japan, especially the people, cuisine and culture. After training for many years when I was a teenager, I achieved Black Belt in a Japanese style martial art. My wife and I had a fabulous time travelling discovering Japan proper with friends in 2006.
Much of my work is designing information graphics. What better place to see how it’s done properly, than in the crazy malls and subways of Kyoto and Tokyo!

Pictured with Akiko and my favourite word “Joy” as rendered in Japanese.
